| # 20 march 2010 at 12:17 Hi guys, I've got a question to inaugurate this forum ptitraceur007 was wondering in the french forum what was exactly a "kong vault". We answered him that in french, we call it a "Saut de chat". Now I'm wondering if there is a difference between monkey and kong vault ? A question of run-up ? | # 20 march 2010 at 17:50 yeah, the terminology is a pain in the ass on the vaults...i think some people call it a "monkey" vault if you're doing the vault from a standing position and on a rail?..and if it's a running one usually its called a "kong" vault. i heard some people in london call it "cat pass", and make sense in a way, since it's the closest to the original french name, which is saut de chat but that means cat leap and we use that for another move and that move is actually called "saut de bras" in french which means "arm jump" and blah blah blah....yeah it's very confusing and annoying that loads of moves got strange names over the years.. |

| # 20 march 2010 at 23:21 Well, guys, I let you imagine the mess it is when I want to describe a move to RUSSIAN traceurs, considering that I know the french name of the move and that in Russian the names are mostly taken from the English version... :p As for the "cat leap", in Russian it stands actually for "saut de chat" ^^ Peace Не уверен? | # 21 march 2010 at 10:13 In Oslo we mostly go for catpass as an all encompassing name for sdc and armjump for the sdb, closer to the french names and less discussions about the semantics. What is a more interesting question imo is to what extent other communities translate names of movements into their own native language. I seem to remember some Germans calling the speed vault "einhandige vertikalsprung" or something like that, which seems hilarious to me. |
| # 21 march 2010 at 12:52 "Einhändiger Vertikalsprung"? Never heard that. We mostly go with German translations of the original french terms. Only English names we use are Lazy Vault, Speed Vault, Reverse and sometimes climbup/muscleup (climbup @ wall, muscleup @ dead hang). |
) is mostly jumped from two feet, hands placed on obstacle, and you gain just enough distance to pass the obstacle. In the "(king-)kong vault" it's more of a running move, and you have bigger distance before and after the vault. A "king-kong" is basically a very large monkey, so that's probably how the name came to existence.
